| Store at McDuffie Museum to be named 'Frog Pond' |
The McDuffie Museum will open to the public on Sunday, Jan.11. The first featured exhibit will be a Smithsonian Institute traveling exhibit, Key Ingredients: America By Food. The McDuffie Museum was one of 12 rural sites chosen by the Georgia State Humanities Council to host Key Ingredients. The exhibit examines how culture, ethnicity, landscape and tradition have influenced local foods.

| New Year's 'un-resolutions' can be easy to keep |
How many consecutive years of my adult life can I resolve to get organized, manage my time better, exercise regularly, or read more books without eventually billing myself as an underachiever? After careful consideration and a good wallow in the depths of depression, I believe the un-resolution - a statement of what I will not do - best suits my given talents and level of commitment and most certainly offers ample chances for success; particularly since it only depends on inertia.

| 'A great ambassador' : Local player named national deaf player of the year |

For the past four years, Georgia School for the Deaf football coach Eric Whitworth knew he had a star player. And this year, coaches across the nation acknowledged it, too. Thomson resident and GSD Tigers tailback Timothy Simmons was named 2008 Player of the Year and All-American by the National Deaf Interscholastic Athletics Council.

New Year's Day has always been a big day for football fans but the landscape of the college postseason has changed so much that we hardly notice Jan. 1 anymore. We can't tell it from any other day without a calendar. I can remember back to the days of the "Big 4" where you had few viewing choices around your fatback and collard greens.
